Fixture Manager

Fixture Definition
In eCam it is possible to manage various types of fixtures, which help improve project clarity, toolpath planning, and simulation accuracy.
Supported Types
You can import or define the following components:
- Fixed-jaw vises
- Self-centering vises
- Clamps for self-centering vises
Parameter-based Definition
Self-centering vises and clamps can also be defined using geometric parameters, enabling quick customization without the need for external 3D models.
Model Import
3D models of fixtures can be imported from:
- Leading fixture manufacturers
- The 3DfindIT platform (https://www.3dfindit.com/)
Model Optimization
To ensure optimal performance, models should be lightweight and optimized.
It is recommended to use STEP files with a size under 1 MB, to avoid overloading the project.
Fixture manager
From Menu > Edit > Fixture Manager
From this window, you can add, edit, or delete all the fixtures that will be used in the various projects.
Vise Import
The first step after importing a vise is to align it with the Z axis.
To do this, enable the Model Align by PLANAR face option and click on the top planar face with the mouse.
The model will then be aligned and centered along the Z axis based on the normal direction of the selected face.
After importing the model, you need to define the grip jaw face and the grip bottom face by selecting them.
Based on this selection, the software will automatically adjust the jaw positions to properly clamp the stock model.
The selected faces will be highlighted, and labels will appear to indicate them.
See the image below:
Chuck Jaw Import
For self-centering chucks, you only need to import one jaw.
The remaining jaws will be automatically cloned and positioned to complete the visualization.
To center the clamps correctly, first select the cylindrical face and then the base plane of the clamp.
Chuck Jaw Manual Definition
Instead of importing a 3D model, chuck jaws can be defined manually using a set of parameters.
You can specify:
- Number of jaws
- Jaw width, height, and depth
- Grip diameter
- Chuck diameter
- Base height
Based on these values, the software will generate a parametric 3D model and automatically position the jaws symmetrically around the chuck axis.
This method is useful for quick setup and when a detailed 3D model is not required.
Delete unnecessary components
The imported 3D STEP file may include components that are not needed. You can delete them to keep the model lightweight and optimized.
Click [Select parts to delete], then click on the component you want to remove.
Press the [Del] key on your keyboard to delete it.
Setup Fixture Definition
Fixtures are managed at the setup level.
To add one, open the setup edit screen and navigate to the Fixture tab.
Enable Add Fixture and select the desired fixture from the dropdown list.
The fixture will automatically adapt to the current stock profile.

Current Limitations
- No collision check or toolpath compensation is performed with fixture meshes.
- Fixtures can only be defined for the first setup.
